For the information of all members and friends, I am pleased to advise that the Commissioner of Police, Mal Hyde and Mrs Hyde (Marcia) have accepted our invitation to attend an official IPA luncheon at the Crown Hotel, Victor Harbour on Saturday the 19th of May, 2012, commencing at 12.30pm. The venue has been booked and the event has been widely publicised amongst our members, particularly down the South Coast. In addition, a representative of the Mayor will be attending the luncheon, as the Mayor will be away interstate. We are also hoping to see a number of members of the Retired Police Officers Association from the South Coast, maybe some from Police Legacy. I am pleased that a number of our members have already committed to attending the function. There will be some presentations during the afternoon. This is a great opportunity to foster the fellowship of our great organisation, but importantly as well, to acknowledge and thank Commissioner Hyde for his Patronage during his term as the CEO of SAPOL. Come along and help to make this memorable occasion for all.

CONFIRMATION OF YOUR ATTENDANCE WOULD BE APPRECIATED BY FRIDAY THE 11th of MAY, EITHER TO John Van Dulken our Treasurer or to the Regional Chairman, Fred Wojtasik. Contact details for both you will find in the Police Down Under.

Welcome to all readers of the IPA website and particularly to the readers of the Far North Queensland branch site.

Life in the far north is unique with its diversity of environment from the Great Barrier Reef to World Heritage listed rainforests and rugged outback terrain. The local members of the IPA live and work within this environment and are proud to showcase the attractions to IPA visitors. The combined local knowledge can provide advice to visitors for the ideal travel plans.

Some of the other activities we have been able to help visiting members with are dive and snorkling trips to the Great Barrier Reef, and even flights over some of the most spectacular ocean in the world. The rainforests can be accessed by vehicle to places such as the Daintree National Park, Cape Tribulation or Mossman Gorge, while the Kuranda Scenic Rail and Skyrail offer visitors their unique access to the wet tropics above Cairns.

Above Cairns is the Atherton Tablelands, a region providing the farming base for our range of tropical foods, including dairy, coffee, mangoes, avocadoes, pineapples, bananas and the list goes on. From here, travellers can hand feed the rock wallabies of Granite Gorge or explore further into the outback (with a properly equipped 4WD of course).

We welcome inquiries from IPA visitors and look forward to sharing our place with you.

SOCIAL NEWS:

Dear Members once again we are about to commence our social calendar for 2012 there has been a change of night for the Dinner / Mystery Movie night. I have been advised by the Cygnet Theatre that the Preston on Como (Formerly the Karalee Tavern) will only do the “Dinner Nights on a Tuesday night.

For our members who enjoyed a nice curry unfortunately the D’Tandor Indian Restaurant has now closed and we will be searching for a new Indian restaurant close by.

The Dinner / Movie night is still priced at $22.00 which gives members a choice from three main meal on offer and entry to the Cygnet Theatre. I have had several talks with Paul the manager of the Preston on Como and he has advised me that the menu will change on a regular basis.

This year I have produced a Social Calendar so members can place it in a place that you can regularly refer to and meet the RSVP dates if you intend to attend any of the Social Functions.

All of our Monthly Meetings and Social Functions are family friendly and members can bring either family members or their friends.

VISITORS TO WA

On Saturday the 14th. of January our host coordinator Vic Smith attended at the Perth International Airport to welcome George Simpson and his wife to Perth.

George and his wife left Scotland on Friday the 13th. when the temperature was minus 3D Celsius and arrived in Perth with a temperature at 27C, this was the evening temperature. (The average temperature while they were here was 39C.)

After the formalities were over Vic took them to their chalet at the Perth Village Caravan Park.

On Monday Vic picked them up and took them for a tour of Perth.

They did the usual tour of the city, Kings Park Botanical Gardens, the University of Western Australia and a tour through Nedlands and Mosman Park and down to Fremantle for fish and chips at Cicerellos.

After lunch it was a quick tour of Fremantle and along the coast to Cottesloe, City Beach to Scarborough and then along Reid Highway back to their chalet at the caravan park.

Because of the limited time Vic was unable to assist them anymore and they were left to their own devices for the next two days before they left to go to the eastern states.

They were driving overland and making stops at Merredin and Kalgoorlie before crossing the Nullabor and heading to Broken Hill in South Australia.

Pete Lewis a member of the United Kingdom Section is here in Perth for a holiday with his friends who reside in Marangaroo.

Pete had previously been to Perth and other parts of Australia with his late wife Ivy. Val and Colleen visited Pete in Marangaroo and went out to lunch with him.

Pete is enjoying our hot weather. It hoped that we will see him again before he returns to the UK.
